The Chinese women's rugby 7s side were crowned Asian Champions over the weekend defeating Kazakhstan 31-12 in the final avenging their defeat at the Asian Games last year. Twelve of Asia's top teams competed at the event. In the final, Gao Yan was a standout player for China, as her side established a 15-0 lead at half time.

Current champions Kazakhstan were absent but the 8 teams that did line up included Samoa, China, Hong Kong and last year's runner-up, Papua New Guinea.

Up to now only the topfour tier of teams in the regionhave met regularly to compete but next year sides including Lao, China and the Philippines will all play in the second division event.

The sponsorship extends across the age-grade National Teams and runs for a four-year period. This weekend the women's national side are off to Shanghai to take part in the Shanghai Sevens.
