In a weekend packed with international Sevens action, the France women’s rugby side took the Invitational Women's crown at the Dubai Sevens while China were victorious at the East Asian Games. In Dubai, the French women's sevens team defeated the Wooden Spoons side on a score of 19-0 in the final. Cheered on by a supportive crowd France took the game by the scruff of the neck and led 12-0 at halftime.

Guam gunning to make an impact

This weekend four Asian women’s rugby nations will contest for the title of 7s champions at the East Asian Games in Hong Kong. Guam, one of the four teams, will be firm underdogs but head coach Willie Heteraka is looking forward to the event.

Guam, one of the four teams alongside China, Japan and Hong Kong will be firm underdogs but head coach Willie Heteraka said his side will be proud and committed and his side will take encouragement from solid performances at other 7s events this year.

The East Asian Games next weekend will offer an opportunity for the women's rugby 7s sides from China, Japan, Guam and Hong Kong to develop in another international tournament. China may well be favourites having been the Bowl winners at the Rugby World Cup Sevens this year but they will face tough competition from their other three Asian nations. Hong Kong coach Zanio Yong Chi Fung says his side are ready for the event.

Asian qualifying battle down to two

Kazakhstan and Japan will battle it out in Singapore on Friday for the last spot at the Women’s Rugby World Cup in London in 2010. To get to the Asian Qualifiers final, Kazakhstan today defeated Hong Kong 58-14 while Japan overcame Singapore 35-1.
