Ireland were comfortable victors over Kazakhstan in their final pool game but just fell short of making the World Cup semi-finals for the first time as they lost out on points difference. The victory meant Ireland, Canada and Australia all finished level on ten points in the table but an inferior points difference meant Ireland fell short with the Australians eventually going through.

Ireland have been dealt an injury blow with news that starting scrumhalf Tania Rosser is out of the World Cup after she hurt her shoulder playing the USA on Tuesday. Rosser has been an ever-present in Ireland’s starting lineup for a number of years and the New Zealand born number 9 was in good form at the World Cup scoring a crucial try last week.

Ireland beat the USA 22-12 in an exciting pool B clash. The result means the USA are likely to be out of the semi-final running but Ireland took a bonus point for four tries.
