Susan Carty, the IRB’s Women’s Development Manager has just returned from a trip to the region, overseeing a major workshop involving South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, Botswana, Ghana, Namibia and Kenya.

The national women’s rugby sides from Brazil, Thailand, South Africa, Spain, USA, Russia and Georgia will all do battle for the IRB Sevens World Series in Dubai this December.The competition comes in the same year as the first appearance by women's teams at the IRB Rugby World Cup Sevens, which Australia won.

What did the recent Nations Cup tell us about how five leading sides are preparing for the World Cup?
The “tradition” of summer international rugby in Canada was revived in August with the largest ever tournament held there outside of a World Cup. Featuring all of the the nations that finished 2nd to 5th in the last World Cup, plus Africa’s strongest side, it promised to be a real test for all the participants one year away from the next World Cup.
