The China women’s rugby 7s team took home the USA women's invitational title in Vegas after they beat the home team over the weekend. The tournament, which was also attended by the women’s teams from France, a second USA team, Germany and a selection from Canada Universities, saw the USA ‘Whites’ take to the field to take on China in front of a large home crowd.

The American women’s rugby 7s side will take a squad of 24 player to the USA Rugby Women’s International Invitational Sevens Tournament in Las Vegas next weekend. Recently-appointed head coach Ric Suggitt will oversee two USA teams at the tournament which will also see involvement from the national 7s sides from Germany, France and China.

A tight game in Florida saw the USA hit back at Canada, who had beaten them earlier in the week, as the home team edged the second game of the Atlantic Cup 11-10. All the points were scored in the second half and Canada almost stole the victory with a late try. The earlier game of the day saw the Canadian U20s team also sneak a close win as they beat their USA counterparts 13-12.

The USA women’s rugby U20 side take on their Canadian counterparts this weekend as the curtain raiser to the Atlantic Cup game between the nation’s two senior sides. The USA U20s side beat Canada 38-20 when the sides last met but Chivers is expecting a more experienced and tougher opposition this time around. Coach Bryn Chivers answers our questions.
