Why was this site launched? www.scrumqueens.com was launched in 2009 with the aim of offering in-depth quality coverage of women’s rugby at international level. What does it cover? The site gives in-depth coverage of major international competitions such as the Six Nations, the European Championships, the Nations Cup and the Women’s World Cup and focuses predominantly on International 15 and 7 aside teams and competitions. It also aims to cover smaller lesser profiled competitions such as the Elgon Cup and Asian 7s. The site relies on regular news and player updates from the unions who participate in women’s rugby at international level and supplements this information with unique content such as feature pieces examining topical women’s rugby issues, contributors’ columns and blogs and touchline match reports from key games. Who writes for the site? Regular columnists include Ireland player Fiona Coghlan, international women’s rugby referee Clare Daniels and former Canada player Meghan Mutrie. Website Editor Alison Donnelly contributes major articles and news along with a team of voluntary reporters who offer analysis and features. Why don’t you have a ‘country’ page for every participating country? This is a website run by volunteers so it’s difficult to offer in-depth coverage from every country and especially difficult to obtain enough news to make this feasible from the non-English language countries. We have made coverage of the World-Cup qualified countries a main priority until the event in 2010 but we also aim to offer lots of news and coverage from other nations which will be covered with regular blogs, features and interviews. For now, the ‘Asia’ tab will store countries from that region while the ‘others’ will archive stories from everywhere else, but even that won't remain forever as we will look to add more 'country' and region buttons in the months ahead. Will the site be maintained and updated regularly? We aim to update the site with regular news in and around the international windows and will obviously focus lots of attention on the key competitions during the season. We have lots of future plans for the site such as the addition of video, an RSS feed, more high-profile bloggers, and incrreased interactivity. These things take time - and money - so keep with us as we progress. Can I contribute to the site? In a word - YES! We are always looking for ideas, feedback, pictures and new writers.
