On the first day of the European Trophy there were wins for the international women's rugby sides of Sweden, Spain, Italy and the host team France A.
In the first game of the day, Spain beat the Netherlands 26-12 in a result that will be hugely disappointing for the Dutch team who were hopeful they could challenge for the title.
Spain are an experienced team though and outscored the Dutch four tries to two in the match. Netherlands had taken an early 7-0 lead but the Spanish controlled the game thereafter and saw out the win.
The home team were up next and France A as expected had no trouble in beating Belgium on a massive 70-0 win. The inexperienced Belgium team put up a brave first half resistance, conceding just 20 points in that period but the French were far too strong in the second half.
In the other pool, Sweden overcame Russia 32-0 and Italy beat Germany 43-0.
The competition continues on Monday with the second round of games.
