Ireland have been dealt an injury blow with news that starting scrumhalf Tania Rosser is out of the World Cup after she hurt her shoulder playing the USA on Tuesday.
Rosser has been an everpresent in Ireland’s starting lineup for a number of years and the New Zealand born number 9 was in good form at the World Cup scoring a crucial try last week.
Ireland have called up centre Grace Davitt to join the squad and Rosser’s starting place goes to Louise Beamish who has been her regular understudy. Beamish will be well familiar with the players around her as she plays her provincial rugby with number 8 Joy Neville and out-half Helen Brosnan.
Apart from that enforced change, Irish coach Philip Doyle has made one other starting change ahead of the match against Kazakhstan this Saturday with Eliza Downey making her first appearance of the competition, on the wing.
Yvonne Nolan, Carol Staunton and Jackie Shiels have also been called up to the bench.
Ireland have a chance of making the semi-finals but must depend on other results and must win with plenty to spare to do so.
Ireland team to play Kazakhstan: Niamh Briggs, Amy Davis, Joanne O'Sullivan, Lynne Cantwell, Eliza Downey, Helen Brosnan , Louise Beamish, Fiona Coghlan, Gillian Bourke, Louise Austin , Kate O'Loughlin, Marie Louise Reilly, Orla Brennan, Claire Molloy, Joy Neville
