What a year!: Top 10 stories


Over the past year we've written about a wealth of competitions and provided coverage from the women's game all over the globe. Here are the top ten most read stories over the 12 months since we launched the site with World Cup pieces featuring strongly.

1) World Cup Final - Live Updates

Ali Donnelly's rolling news page during the World Cup Final proved to be the most popular story over the past 12 month. The live page was updated every few minutes right throughout the match attracting hits from 60 countries!

2) World Cup Day Two - As it happened

Another of the live update pages that proved so popular with fans during the World Cup, this was a key pool day during the competition with the games between Wales V South Africa, Canada V Sweden, France V Scotland, Australia V New Zealand and Ireland V USA. Hits peaked during the Ireland V USA match as the Irish scored a bonus point win.

3) World Cup Day Three - As it happened

This was the final day of the pool stages where there were key games across the three pools. France defeated Canada, Ireland played Kazakhstan and Scotland played Sweden early on while later in the day we had that amazing match where Australia hammered South Africa by a big enough margin for them to get to the semi-finals while New Zealand played Wales in another great game. The USA played England in the final match.

4) Canada's Meghan Mutrie - Blog

This was one of the first every blogs we posted on the site - with Canada's Meghan Mutrie telling her incredible story. Mutrie recovered from a brain injury suffered while playing for her country and her story was one of the most inspiring we have ever read. Worth another read this.

5) Ireland's Fiona Coghlan - Blog

Another of the first blogs we posted, the Ireland captain's words about how her team was preparing for the 6 Nations last winter drew plenty of traffic. Coghlan took us through the Irish pre-season training sessions and talked about her hopes for the year ahead.

6) Tributes pour in for Uttley

The death of former Teddington, Wasps and England player Linda Uttley led to an outpouring of tributes after her sad passing from illness last year. Uttley was one of the most well known faced in the English game and this initial piece was widely read.

7) ScrumQueens All Star World Cup team named

Picking our top 22 players from the World Cup was a hard task - it took many debates, emails and analysis before we got there, and even then we felt anxious about who we left out. Truth be told there were about 40 players who were considered and could easily have made it - testament to the quality of the talent at the competition.

8) World Cup Day One - As it happened

The first of our live blogs on day one of the World Cup proved popular with fans as the competition launched at the Surrey Sports Park. England got off to a flier against Ireland while there was a complete round of games overall.

We were the first place to bring you news of what matches would be shown live in Sky Sports during the World Cup as we outlined exactly where you could watch the competition, in what country and what you would see live.
