Caribbean title up for grabs

By Ali Donnelly

The Cayman Islands will host the annual NACRA women’s rugby international competition this year with four teams vying to be crowned champions of the Caribbean.

The host nation are joined at the 15 aside event by Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, and a Caribbean Selects side which is likely to include the top players from teams such as Barbados and St Vincent and The Grenadines.

The competition is returning to a more traditional format this year after the competition in 2010 saw a new format with the U20 women’s sides from Canada and the USA invited to take part.

That event, held in the Bahamas was an opportunity to give the international sides from the region a chance to test themselves against tougher opposition.

Trinidad will most likely be the team to beat at this year’s event having repeatedly been crowned Caribbean Champions in previous years, while Cayman will be seeking to continue their rapid improvement at this level while Jamaica are competing once again after a couple of years absence from the tournament.
