Brazil win South American Games gold

Brazil have continued their unbeaten record in South American rugby with a perfect campaign in the South American Games in Bolivia that was crowned with the gold medal: 6 wins in 6 games with a total of 40 tries scored against just 17 points conceded.

In addition the gold medal in Cochabamba in Bolivia secures a place for the next Pan American Games that will take place between July 26 and August 11 in 2019, in Lima. Peru.

Only silver medalists Argentina and bronze medalists Paraguay managed to cross the Brazilian line. Argentina now seem to have regained their place as the continent's second ranked team, with impressive wins over all opposition other than Brazil. Their 38-0 win over Colombia in the final day will have been particularly satisfying.

Colombia slipped to fourth behind Paraguay on points difference after the two teams drew 19-19.

Peru put in some good performances, including a one point defeat to Colombia and a single try loss to Paraguay, but in the end could only record two wins for fifth place. Uruguay, bronze medalists at previous games, slipped to a disappointing sixth with only one win against newcomers Bolivia, who had a not unexpected tough time, but could at least celebrate two tries against Colombia and Uruguay.

Brazil now move onto the World Cup which takes place in July (20-22) .
