England U20 secure comfortable win

England played an expansive game with backs and forwards linking well in open play resulting in some excellent team tries.

The England tries were scored by Jess Breach (3) Kelly Smith, Lottie Holland, Millie Wood, Sarah Bern and Chantelle Miell. Zoe Harrison kicked two conversions and Langi Tuima also added one.

Taejah Thompson kicked Canada's lone penalty while Tobi Owotomo had the lone try.

Hollie Cunningham, Ellie Mulhearn and Lagi Tuima all made an impact as they debuted from the bench in the second half.

England U20 Head Coach Jo Yapp said: “We are really pleased with the performance, the girls worked really hard to put into practice what we have been working on in this summer camp.

"It was great to see new players such as Lagi, Hollie and Ellie winning their first U20 caps. We now focus on the next game as we know Canada is a strong side and we are expecting them to regroup and come hard at us on Monday.”

“England had a polished attack,” Canada head coach Jen Boyd said. “It was evident they had spent significant time working and playing together including a Six Nations tournament. "Overall, I am pleased with our defensive shape. Few have played at this level and now understand what to expect. We will be better prepared for our next game. Careful film review, better focus at training and an increased awareness of this level of play will go a long way prior to game 2 in a few days. We struggled offensively as we lacked vision, depth, width and a kicking game. We struggled getting out of our end and England made us pay.”
