England U20s beat British Army

[

Report from RFU]. Both teams played with real ambition and attacked at every opportunity but an early try from Wasps wing Abi Dow put England at an immediate advantage.

Dow went on to score a second try just before half time, with Rachael Woosey making the most of a late call up to also score twice for England on her debut.

The three remaining tries came from Saracens prop Ellena Perry, Worcester fullback Kelly Smith and Sue Neumann, who came off the bench to score England’s final try in the 79th minute.

In total England made 16 new caps on the night to score seven tries, with the Army unable to capitalise on the 12 points they made in the first half.

Head coach Jo Yapp said after the game: “We are really pleased with how the players went out onto the pitch and expressed themselves. With nine first caps in the starting line-up, it shows how the pathway and TDG programme is working.

“There were mistakes made but it was the girls’ ability and maturity to overcome these mistakes that we were pleased with.”
