Asian title up for grabs this weekend

As part of further build-up to the Asian Games, eight teams will be in Borneo, Malaysia this weekend to take part in the Asia Pacific Women’s 7s competition.

The event will take place alongside the IRB Asian Sevens Series decider for men.

The women's teams taking part in the competition are Singapore, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu, Malaysia, Thailand and Kazakhstan.

The weekend marks the start of a hectic period for women's rugby 7s in the Asian region, as six teams will next week compete for the SCC 7s title in Singapore and then finally the big event of the winter - the Asian Games will be held in China in late November.

In Borneo this weekend, over 500 elite rugby players and officials will be at the the 3-day tournament. As well as the women's competition other title up for grabs include the Asian Rugby Sevens Series (Men) and the Invitational Clubs Sevens (Borneo 7s).
