The third leg of the Asian 7s followed a similar pattern to the previous two, not least with the top four being again China, Japan, Hong Kong and Thailand. These four again qualifying for the semi-finals with relative ease.
And the result was again a China v Japan final – but by reaching the final China had already done enough to win the overall title after taking the first two legs. Nonetheless Japan gained some compensation with a big 31-7 win against their biggest rivals.
The main interest, unusually, was perhaps at the other end of the competition with relegation coming down to shoot-off between UAE and Singapore, who both had a sixth an eighth place in previous rounds – and it was UAE who won it, 24-0.
