France and Wales U18s unbeaten on Day 1

France and Wales enjoyed strong showings on the opening day of the Women’s Six Nations Under-18s Festival in Edinburgh.

France and Wales went two from two in their matches on the first day of the U18 Festival.

Eash game was played over 35-minutes, ensuring that six games could be played on the day.

Wales topped their pool, which included Scotland and Italy. They saw off Scotland and then Italy, not conceding a point in the process, getting the ball rolling with an impressive 24-0 win over the host nation, with two tries in the final minutes to cap off a four-try showing. They followed that up with a hard-fought affair against Italy, dominating territory for long periods on their way to a 14-0 win.

France were too strong for Ireland and England, powering to a 26-0 success against Ireland in their first game of the day and before being pushed the limit match against England, going down 7-5 after five minutes before four unanswered tries allowed them to pull away to record a 29-7 success.

England had earlier got the better of Ireland in one of the closest games of the day, running out 17-12 victors thanks to a try a minute from team to snatch victory.

And in the other match, there was a rare scoreless encounter as Scotland and Italy played out a stalemate.

On Tuesdays the six teams will each play a single full (70 minute) "test" - Scotland will play Italy, Ireland will meet Wales, and England will take on France.
