Germany eventually came out on top in Zabki, Poland, beating a strong Swedish team in what was a close final until the final when Germany took advantage of Sweden having to chase the game to score twice.
On the first day Germany, Sweden, Romania and Ukraine all looked to be in the running. Ukraine drew 7-7 with Sweden in their final pool game.
However that draw resulted in an odd situation where the teams were ranked based on their pool results, rather than the winner in one pool playing the runner up in the other. As a results Sweden played Ukraine again in the semi-finals, and this time Sweden made no mistake winning 27-7, while Germany saw off Romania for a second time.
The final was a close affair with Germany taking a 10-0 lead into the break before Sweden pulled in back to 10-7. But Sweden could not find a second score, and two late tries from Germany ensured their win.
