If Coronavirus had not happened the Olympic Games in Tokyo would have been due to start next Wednesday, 22ndJuly, with the women’s sevens being played over three days from 30thJuly, following on from the men’s tournament three days before (a reversal of Rio).

That will obviously not be happening, but the revised dates for the Games and the women’s sevens next year have now been announced.

The women’s sevens will now take place between 29thand 31stJuly 2021, with the gold medal match taking place on the middle Saturday of the Games when interest in the Games is at a peak.

Everything else about the tournament is unchanged. There will be still be justtwo sessions on each competition daywith the morning sessions from 09:00 (local time) to 12:00, and the evening sessions from 16:30 to 19:00 or 19:30.

The sevens will also still take place at the Tokyo Stadium, which was a Rugby World Cup venue
