The dates for the postponed Olympic Rugby Sevens tournament in Tokyo have been published
If Coronavirus had not happened the Olympic Games in Tokyo would have been due to start next Wednesday, 22nd July, with the women’s sevens being played over three days from 30th July, following on from the men’s tournament three days before (a reversal of Rio).
That will obviously not be happening, but the revised dates for the Games and the women’s sevens next year have now been announced.
The women’s sevens will now take place between 29th and 31st July 2021, with the gold medal match taking place on the middle Saturday of the Games when interest in the Games is at a peak.
Everything else about the tournament is unchanged. There will be still be just two sessions on each competition day with the morning sessions from 09:00 (local time) to 12:00, and the evening sessions from 16:30 to 19:00 or 19:30.
The sevens will also still take place at the Tokyo Stadium, which was a Rugby World Cup venue
