Australia must adapt saus Manenti

There were nine cards handed out on the first day with Australia's Alex Hargreaves, Iliseva Batibasaga and Caroline Vakalahi all spending time in the sin-bin. Ultimately it didn't affect the outcome as the Wallaroos went on to beat Wales but with the Black Ferns next to come, Manenti knows his side won't be able to afford such ill-discipline.

"I am disappointed in some of the discipline definitely. It is certainly something we had spoken of. I think it's fair to say that interpretations are a bit different and that's something we are going to have to work really hard on and things were happening at the breakdown which we don't confront in Australia and it was difficult for the girls to know how to respond to that."

Australia had taken an early 21-0 lead with three tries in the first half, but a glut of penalties in the second half meant that Australia were down to 13 players at one stage as Wales tried to mount a comeback. Despite leaking two tries, the Australians dug deep when they were minus a couple of players and held the Welsh out.

Manenti said: "I thought it was a really corageous effort to play into the breeze with two players down and hang on and come back and score the last try. It was nice to get a game under our belts at last. We haven't played together for 12 months and our combinations were always going to be tested under pressure and I thought the girls responded very well to a lot of pressure.

"We will look at the videos and see what was happening with our discipline and if we need to we can sit down with some of the referees but there is no real issue, we just have to adapt quickly and that's the nature of big tournaments"

Meanwhile Australias leading flyhalf Tui Ormsby has been ruled out of the World Cup after she fractured her eye socket in the 26-21 win over Wales.

Manenti has called on all of his star power for the showdown with New Zealand tomorrow and has made seven changes to his starting side which beat Wales.

Australian Sevens Player of 2009 and reigning IRB personality of the year Debby Hodgkinson will start at No.8 with Alex Hargreaves shifting to her favoured position of openside flanker while Sevens World Cup winning-skipper Cheryl Soon returns to the starting XV and replaces Ili Batibasaga at halfback.

A new combination in the centres sees Cheyenne Campbell, who is a cousin of Qantas Wallabies playmaker Quade Cooper, start at 12 with Sharni Williams at outside centre while Seei Sau has been brought in to strengthen the Wallaroos front row at the expense of prop Caroline Vakalahi.

Tobie McGann will take Ormsbys place at 10 as WAs Stacey Kilmister has been flown in as an injury replacement.
