Magnificent Marcoussis ready for the start

Pitch 1 - the home of France in the pool stages

In glorious sunshine, the venue for the pool stages of the World Cup looks in magnificent shape for the tournament, which starts today.

Ticket sales and media interest have again exceeded all expectations (just as they did in 2010), with each day building towards what promises to be a magnificent climax with France ending each day with a game on the main pitch.

On the first day they may also have the advantage of playing at the coolest time of the day. Temperatures are expected to be nudging 30c around the middle of the day, with high humidity and not a breath of wind.

Final preparations were being completed as ScrumQueens toured the site. The pitches are in magnificent shape (pitch 3 to the right - there is no pitch 2), looking like bowling greens (albeit with slightly longer grass) – and they will have to be as each of the two fields will have to cope with 720 minutes of international rugby over in the next eight days of pool games alone.

We’ll be keeping you up-to-date onTwitter(so come and join in the conversation!), as well with putting up match reports throughout the day (well, that is the plan).

Many of the games will also bebroadcast in certain countriesand streamed everywhere else.
