Benneton win first Latin Challenge

Benneton Rugby have won the first “Latin Challenge” – the Spanish-Italian High Performance Series.

The Italian Benneton Rugby franchise beat Iberians Valencia 41-12 against at 14:00 at the Stadio Monigo in Treviso to complete a wins over the both of the Spanish teams in the tournament and so lift Latin Cup.

The Italian team proved to be superior, especially at the beginning of the match in which they managed to score four tries in the first 10 minutes of the match. The Spanish reaction cut the lead before the break, but in the second half the Italian continued to be superior.

On the previous day the Spanish franchise of Iberians Sitges beat a tough Zebre Parma by a convincing 5-26 at the Colorno Stadium. The Spaniards

The first half saw Iberians Sitges dominate possession resulting in tries from Inés Antolínez and Claudia Peña. A penalty try extended the lead to 0-21 at the break.

In the second half it was again Inés Antolínez scored a second try before Zebre began to press, looking to play more in the Spanish end, and gaining more possession. The reward for the Italians was a try right at the end of the match, ending the game with a score of 5-26 for the Iberians Sitges.
